Blue Marlin (bad luck)

Wednesday 27th April 2011

Bad luck today after yesterdays success. We worked a shoal of bait fish for 1hour knowing that the Marlin would be somewhere around. Sure enough we found a fish of 20okilo feeding on the surface. it came to the spread but showed no interest in the lures and faded off the short rigger (FULL OF BAIT I SUPOSE) bad luck but the clients enjoyed the sighting.

Tuesday 26th April 2011

Well Dorado does it again catching the 1st blue Marlin in Gran Canaria for the year 2011, bringing our record to 10 years out of 11 catching the 1st of the season a record we are proud of. We were sure the marlin would start to move this coming week and our intuition was right, Angler Anders Roennbaeck from Sweden chartered with his family and decided to go for his dream fish. The blue came to a Black Bart special on the long rigger, hitting the lure twice it ripped off 300 metres of line on its initial run, Anders methodicly played the fish for 28 mins. Traditionaly we bring in the 1st of the season if the angler is in agreement and it weighed in at 190 kilos. Congratulations to Angler Anders, Crew Roberto, David & Paul. This is a Great start to the Big Game Season and hears hoping we are set for another record Year.

We gave our anglers the chance to fish the reef today giving them the opportunity to catch, Bream, Snappers, Bocinegro and the Odd Ray.
Half of the clients made the choice of fishing for the Rays and 3 hook ups unfortunately where lost in the play. Thats fishing folks!
Our Youngest Angler Ross Hunter 9 years old from Beckinsfield England enjoyed catching our live bait for the Day. He also helped to Captain the Boat.
5 Wahoos taunted us for 2 hours but would not Eat.
SPEARFISH are now making an appearance so we look forward to some trolling next week.

After yesterdays disappointment of losing 2 Wahoo Today we did half trolling and half bottom fishing to cover all potential chances of fish.
Trolling produced 2 hookups with Wahoo Jeff Pilgrim took top honours. His Friend Jason Hamilton from the U.S.A. had the heaviest Ray. There were plenty of smaller eadible fish caught making a pleasant days fishing for all clients.

Thursday 14th April 2011

Well we told you at the Start of the week there would be a few surprises and true to form it happened a hook up with a majestic Blue Marlin. It was Austrian angler Eric who over the last 4 years has had the 1st blue Marlin in Gran Canaria no less than 3 times fishing on board the Dorado but sadly his dream was not to materialize today. The Blue estimated at 250kg hit the lure and faded only to return with a vengance, lit up ,it pulled the clips and took line.Clearing the rods in great anticipation it headed sky wards and threw the hooks. On close examination it showed the fish had been bill wraped and had shreaded the leader. Bad luck for Eric in trying to add to his remarkable record of catching the 1st of the season. Well done Roberto and crew. Lets see if we can add to our own unsurpassed acheivements.(see why fish with us on our homepage)

Wednesday 13th April 2011

After our very succesful Ray fishing Trips ( 3 Rays over 100kilos/200lbs + ). We decided to do a half and half trip giving us a chance to troll for Wahoo having seen these fish around the boat whilst fishing for the Rays. The bottom fishing was done by drifting over the Reef in 50 fathoms. Success came with lots of Cabrilla, Pluma, Sama , Snappers and Morena Eels. The Trolling paid dividends with a good size Wahoo of 25kilos/56lbs Alberto Hernandez was the Lucky Angler. Another rewarding days fishing enjoyed by all.

Tuesday 12th April 2011

We are on a roll with the Big Rays with 2 more topping the
100kilos/200lbs. Both Beauties were Sting Rays with the best one of the day falling to Vesa Makkonen who shared his catch with Brian Larsen. The Swedish Duo fought the fish on Light Line and took 1 hour 40 minuets. Fifteen minuets into the fight we hooked up with another Huge fish , Mattias Karlsson from Sweden landed the Ray after Jens Sondergaard from Denmark passed him the Rod. Jens had already played this monster for 30minuets on Light Tackle Standup.
Both these anglers also caught Eagle Rays as did Fredrik Berhardsson also from Sweden. Total of 8 Rays , snappers, Bream, Octopus were caught. WEll done to all on board today.
ALL RAYS BROUGHT ON BOARD WITHOUT THE USE OF GAFFS!

Monday 11th April 2011

Today we fished an Area known for Big Spoecimen Rays. Only Last week a Specimen of 130kilos was brought onboard so to beat this would be an achievement no one could Dream about.
Well 2 hours into the trip Thomas Mett from Germany hooked into a Monster and played this beauty on 80lbs line for 50minuets. When it surfaced everyone was Awestruck at its size and Depth of its Head and Back was 24inches ( 2 feet) off the Deck.
IT TOOK 4 MEN TO BRING ON BOARD - NO GAF USED.
THE FISH WAS RELEASED UNHARMED TO LIVE ANOTHER DAY.
